MEDIUM Instantaneous Hot Water Heater 3-Phase DEL 18 Plus

Compared to electric hot water storage systems, instantaneous hot water heaters can be up to 30% more efficient. How is this if they both use electricity as the heat source? Well its simple - electric hot water storage units hold a lot of hot water inside them and have a very large external surface area. Even though the outside of the tanks are insulated, heat is still lost through the insulation, the tank valves and connections into the external atmosphere (or inside in your cupboard). Instantaneous water heaters don't have this problem - they heat water instantly only when you need it.

The DEL 18 Plus is suitable for supplying hot water to a single or multiple draw-off points, e.g. supply to bathroom and a kitchen.

And because it's an instantaneous water heater you'll have endless hot water - it never runs out.

No other instantaneous water heater with 3i technology has such a wide range of features as the DEL Plus.

With backlit multifunction display, temperature memory, childproofing, and ECO mode, it offers best-in-class comfort and convenience.

The energy and water saving ECO mode can be used to limit the maximum flow rate of the DEL Plus to enable a constant DHW temperature, even where inlet temperatures are low.

Description

The unit is a sealed (unvented) mains-pressure tested appliance for use with all commercially available pressure taps.

The DEL Plus water heater requires no safe tray, flue or ventilation.

Electronically controlled instantaneous water heater with 3i technology. Accurate temperature delivery up to the maximum output. Temperature selection from 30 - 50°C via rotary selector, temperature adjustment for showers in 0.5 °C increments.

Backlit multifunction display to show set temperature, current power consumption, status and service indication.

Memory function for 2 programmable temperatures of choice.

Pivoting appliance cover and programming unit for increased operating convenience in under-sink installations.

Saves energy and water by means of electronic output control with 3i technology.

What is 3i Technology? 3 sensors ensure that the selected temperature is accurately achieved. For this, only the actual required amount of energy is expended; there is no need to add cold water at the tap. This ensures maximum energy efficiency.

ECO mode can be individually selected for particularly economical operation.

Childproofing feature limiting output temperature to 43°C included as standard.

Piping can be connected from below the unit or discreetly from the wall behind.

FAQ

  1. What else do I need to complete the installation? Generally all that's required is a power supply and space for the installation... apart from this, nothing, we send out a kit that can be installed immediately. Please note that to comply with regulations some installation types may require additional valves (see above in Kit Contents).
  2. What is the warranty on the water heater? Stiebel Eltron provides a 5-year domestic warranty, and a 1-year commercial warranty on the DEL 13/18/27 Plus units.
  3. Does the DEL Plus need a tempering valve to limit the hot water to 50 degrees Celsius? No, the DEL Plus hot water system delivers hot water not exceeding 50 degrees Celsius in accordance with AS3498, overcoming the need for a tempering valve in hygienic areas where the water must be limited to not exceed 50 degrees Celsius.
  4. What's the difference between the different DEL water heater models? The only difference is in the water heating capacity, otherwise they all have the same functions.
  5. Where can the DEL Plus instant hot water system be installed? The DEL Plus water heater can be installed almost anywhere due to its compact size. The water heater does not require ventilation, relief drain or safe trays so it can be installed in a cupboard, in the roof space, below the sink, in a service cavity, in a Euro laundry just to name a few options. If installing outdoors, the hot water system must be protected from the elements by a protective covering such as a meter box.
  6. How far can the water heater be installed from the hot water outlet? The DEL Plus water heaters are designed to be installed as close as practical to the most used hot water outlet. Installing closer to the point of use can help to save water and energy by delivering hot water quickly to the outlet. The STIEBEL ELTRON 3 phase electric instantaneous water heaters are designed to service multiple outlets located several metres away from the system.
  7. What size instantaneous electric water heater do I need for my apartment or house? As a general rule, the instant hot water system required will be based on the number of hot water outlets the hot water system needs to service, along with the incoming cold water temperature. As a general guide in an apartment/house with 1 bathroom, a 19.4kW three-phase electric instantaneous water heater (e.g. DEL 18 PLUS) is suitable. In a house with 2 bathrooms, a 28-29.1kW three-phase electric instantaneous water heater (e.g. DEL 27 PLUS) should be selected.
  8. What happens after I order the unit and pay? We will be in contact with you to confirm the order, delivery address and timeframe, and any other questions you may have.
  9. How long until I receive my order, and is there a delivery fee? Within Australian state/territory capital cities delivery is free (excluding Darwin), and your order will usually arrive within 3 business days. For orders outside of capital cities, we offer a flat-rate fee of $200 for delivery.

When do DIY Installation Kits make sense and why

Why is it easy to install?

You don’t need any ducts – you will get a few in-wall units which talk to each other and simultaneously extract stale air and supply fresh air into the room, while recovering as much energy as possible during the process.

Decentralised heat recovery ventilation solutions are ideal for retrofitting to existing buildings, or new buildings that have minimal ceiling or roof space available. This is because with a decentralised system there are no ducts to run – there are simply a few in-wall units which talk to each other and simultaneously extract stale air and supply fresh air into the room, while recovering as much energy as possible during the process.

How is the EnergyLabs’ Complete Heat Recovery Ventilation Kit different to standard ventilation?

There are two main types of ventilation systems in Australian buildings: extraction-only air systems and supply/extract air systems.

The simplest and cheapest method for ventilation is an extraction-only air system. This is the system you will recognise from almost all houses in Australia – unwanted air is removed via ducts from areas such as the kitchen, bathroom and toilet. But the air that is extracted and pushed out from the building must then be replaced somehow… and this replacement air from outside has traditionally just seeped its way into the building via the small openings and cracks around windows, doors, ceiling & roof, etc.

Now in theory this simple and cheap way works, but the air that is getting sucked into the house through all the openings and cracks is costing us money. In winter this air is cold, and therefore we have to pay to heat it up… and the same is true in summer – the air coming in is hot, and we have to pay to cool it down.

But unlike an extraction-air system, a supply/extract system first strips the unwanted extract air of its thermal energy, and then it transfers the majority of this energy to the fresh air that is being supplied into the building. And to achieve this a pair (or pairs) of decentralised heat recovery ventilation units can help you.

How does the whole EnergyLabs’ Complete Heat Recovery Ventilation Kit work? (and why it will save you money)

For example in winter the outside air may be 7°C, but inside your home it’s a comfortable 21°C. A simple extraction-only air system would exhaust to the outside 21°C air from your house, and then draw in 7°C air from outside… which can be uncomfortable for those inside, but most of all costs you money to heat up this cold air to 21°C again.

However, a supply/extract air system would in this situation extract the heat from the stale 21°C air first, and only then exhaust it at ~9°C. The fresh incoming cold air from outside would be at 7°C before it passes through the special crossflow heat exchanger, but then it’s supplied into your home at 19°C… meaning you don’t experience discomfort and you dramatically save on your heating bills, while having high quality (and filtered) fresh air supplied throughout your home.

It’s important to remember that heat recovery ventilation systems do not actively heat or cool your home – they only help you keep more of the energy you already have in your home while enjoying clean fresh air and minimising your energy bills. (Some HRV systems do however have night purge, which during summer allows you to pump out any warm air from inside your home, and replace it with cool night air)

When to get the EnergyLabs’ Complete Heat Recovery Ventilation Kit

  • For people that like that fresh and clean air in their homes 24hrs/day, 365days/yr (without having to manually oipen/close windows all the time)
  • When you want an energy efficient home that doesn’t waste energy (and you don’t want to pay for wasted energy either)
  • When you have an air-tight home that requires fresh air supply (to keep O2 levels right, and minimise CO2 and other pollutant build-up)
  • For people and families that suffer from asthma and allergies (the fresh air is filtered before it enters your home)
  • When you want to reduce the potential of mould and other pathogens (replacing the air within the building and reducing moisture build-up)
