SHP-O 300 Plus hot water heat pump, 300 litres
For 4-6 people, most climates
A heat pump heats your water with heat taken from the outside air, so it uses about a quarter to a third of the electricity of an electric storage tank. Stiebel Eltron's units plug into a normal 10 amp power point and earn the federal rebate.

As a general guide, 200 to 220 litres suits 2 to 4 people. 300 litres suits 4 to 6, or a smaller household with long showers or a big bath.
The SHP-O Plus works down to -5°C and suits most of Australia. In Canberra, Tasmania, alpine areas and the colder parts of Victoria, choose the Premium: active defrost, heat pump running down to -10°C, and STCs in zone 5.
Outdoors it needs 500 mm clear either side of the air grille. Indoors it needs a room of at least 13 cubic metres. Every model plugs into a normal 10 amp power point.
As a modelled estimate: a household of four using about 200 litres of 60°C water a day needs around 4,400 kWh of heat a year. An electric tank turns that into a bill of about $1,450 at 33 cents per kWh. A heat pump averaging a COP of 3.5 over the year uses about 1,250 kWh, or about $410. That is roughly $1,000 a year less on a general tariff, or about $600 on a cheaper off-peak tariff. Your result depends on your hot water use, your tariff and your climate.
Yes. The SHP-O Plus and the WWK keep heating with the heat pump down to -5°C outside, the SHP-O Premium down to -10°C. Below that, the built-in electric element keeps the water hot. For regular hard frosts, choose the Premium.
No. These units heat water for taps and showers only, and Stiebel Eltron warns that warm water returning into the cold inlet would damage them. For floor heating or radiators you need an air-to-water heat pump.
Stiebel Eltron publishes 45 dB(A) at 1 metre for the WWK and 47 dB(A) at 2 metres for the SHP-O. Converted to the same distance (sound drops about 6 dB each time the distance doubles), the WWK is the quieter of the two. Either way, put the unit away from bedroom windows.
A licensed plumber connects the water, fits a tempering valve for the bathrooms and any other valves your area needs, and plans a drain for the condensate. The unit plugs into a 10 amp outlet. Every product page has an installer brief to send them, so you can get a fixed price before you order.
Every model earns the federal STC rebate after installation. Some states add more through accredited installers. See rebates by state.
